Assistant Coach: Jason Blizzard
About the Coach:
Born and raised in Sparks, Md., Matt has been a member of the Hereford Zone Community his entire life. As a youth he played for several of the top soccer clubs in MD, which made multiple appearances in the national tournaments held each year in Atlanta, GA. Attending Hereford High School in the Early 90's, he was a 3 year Varsity Starter for the Men's Soccer, Basketball and Baseball teams. As a soccer player he was selected as a 1st team All-County in his Sophomore and Junior years. As a Senior he was named team Captain and was selected as 1st Team All-County, 1st team All-Metro and played in the Senior All Star Game. Although excelling in all 3 sports @ Hereford, after graduating Matt decided to continue his soccer career and attended Frostburg State University in Western Md. Starting all 4 years as a Forward, his skill and knowledge of the game grew substantially. During his Junior season, Matt was named Alleghany Mountain Collegiate Conference(AMCC) player of the Year and selected to the Adidas All-American team. As a Senior, he was selected as team Captain. During his final season, he was named ECAC player of week two times, named AMCC Player of the Year and selected again to the Adidas All-American team. Knowing he'd always wanted to return to the HZ to coach, he took classes at Frostburg in which he attained his Class "C" soccer coaching License. In 2011, Matt was inducted into the Sparks-Hereford Hall of Fame.
After college, Matt returned to the Hereford Zone to start a family. He has been very successful coaching locally with Jason Blizzard for the last 5 years and is really looking forward to the opportunity to work within the HSC.
